JONATHAN KAUFMAN

TENOR

Jonathan Kaufman continues to represent the best of the new generation of tenors, possessing a voice of entrancing power, beauty, and finesse, which he employs with considerable technique and musicianship. Hailed for his performance as Malcolm (Macbeth), “Regaining the power usurped by Macbeth, Kaufman was a Malcolm whose singing was worthy of the crown won by his valor,” Joseph Newsome of Voix-des-Arts makes it clear why Kaufman is quickly ascending as one of the great tenors of his generation.

The 2021-2022 season sees Kaufman return to Opera Wilmington for Viva Italia! and to Opera Carolina in Bella Notte, Opera Hits!, and I Dream (Tappin). Kaufman then makes debuts with Winter Opera St. Louis in their Fall Gala and as Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) following a Valentine’s Day concert with Aiken Symphony Orchestra.

Winner of the Jennifer White Memorial Award in the Mary Jacobs Smith Singer of the Year competition, 2nd prize winner of the SAS Performing Arts Competition, winner in NIYOP’s inaugural Anonymous Auditions, and finalist in NOA’s Carolyn Bailey & Dominick Argento competition, previous seasons saw Kaufman as Rodolfo (La bohème) with Opera Wilmington, Malcolm (Macbeth) with Opera Carolina and Toledo Opera, and soloist in Opera Delaware’s Fall Jukebox Concert.
